Join us in welcoming Karen Shelton to Riverside for the 2023-24 school year! Karen will be taking on the role of Vice Principal. With degrees from EOU, GCU, and Walden, her educational journey spans Teaching, Education Administration, and being an Educational Specialist in Teacher Leadership. Karen grew up in Milton-Freewater, OR, and she enjoys swimming, paddleboarding, and cooking. Karen's drink of choice is coffee. She taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades in New Orleans, 4th grade in Florida, middle school science in Milton-Freewater, and was an administrator in John Day. With this array of experiences, Karen is excited to work with the community at Riverside High School. She's passionate about integrating innovative curriculum, and she's keen to explore the International Space Station Curriculum. ¡Únase a nosotros para darle la bienvenida a Karen Shelton a Riverside para el año escolar 2023-24! Say hello to Anne Hamann, who is joining the Morrow Education Center for the 2023-24 school year! Anne will be teaching 6th-8th graders. She graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Education and hails from Heppner, Oregon. Her interests include raising and training horses, as well as yard work. Anne's favorite meal includes a Diet Coke and steak. With an impressive 27 years of teaching in North Powder, 3 years at Mc Nary, and 1 year in La Grande, Anne is a knowledgeable veteran and is excited about her new role. She is looking forward to being back in Morrow County and being closer to family. She’s also looking forward to trying her hand at planting a spring garden this year. ¡Saluda a Anne Hamann, quien se unirá al Centro Educativo Morrow para el año escolar 2023-24! Help us extend a warm welcome to Michelle Evans for joining us at A.C. Houghton for the 2023-24 school year! Michelle will be teaching K-3 Special Education. She holds degrees from Oregon State University, Western Oregon University, and Concordia University-Chicago. Her expertise spans Human Development and Family Sciences, Special Education, and Leadership Administration. Michelle grew up in Hillsboro, Oregon, and she enjoys gardening and watching her daughter play softball. Her go-to refreshments are Sugar-Free Rockstar or a Diet Coke, and her favorite snacks are popcorn or Sweet Tarts. With experience in Special Education in the Willamette Valley, Michelle is excited to work with young students again. Her family's journey is closely intertwined with education, as her daughter is also pursuing a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. ¡Ayúdenos a darle una cálida bienvenida a Michelle Evans por acompañarnos en A.C. We are excited to welcome Joshua Roberts to Riverside Jr/Sr High School for the 2023-24 school year! Joshua will be teaching HS Social Studies, Psychology, and Personal Finance. He holds a BS in History with a minor in Business from Eastern Oregon University. Joshua's passions include hunting, playing board games, and spending time outdoors. He has a fondness for Sprite and pepperoni pizza. With previous experience tutoring for IMESD at RHS, Joshua is thrilled to contribute to students' growth and create lifelong learners. He's looking forward to furthering his professional journey and building strong relationships. In addition, he has an intriguing plan to use the Diplomacy board game to teach about political relations in his class. ¡Estamos emocionados de darle la bienvenida a Joshua Roberts a Riverside Jr/Sr High School para el año escolar 2023-24! Help us welcome a new addition to our school district! We are thrilled to introduce Evan Yzaguirre, who will be joining A.C. Houghton as the 3rd-grade teacher for the 2023-24 school year! Evan's educational background includes a degree in Elementary Education with a Concentration in ESOL from Eastern Oregon University. Originally from Hermiston, Oregon, he enjoys spending time outdoors. Coffee and pizza are among his favorite indulgences. Evan's past roles include substitute assistant work, as well as being inspired by his father's career in education. He's excited about the growth of his students and building connections within the district this year. Let’s welcome Laura Wells to Sam Boardman Elementary for the 2023-24 school year! Laura will be teaching 1st Grade. She holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon. Hailing from Hermiston, Oregon, her hobbies include painting, drawing, and weightlifting. Laura's drink of choice is black coffee, and she loves Chinese food. With a history of special education assisting, substitute teaching, and prior 1st-grade teaching experience, Laura is thrilled to be in the classroom for Sam Boardman. She looks forward to utilizing the Science of Reading in her teaching approach and supporting her students. We are delighted to introduce Bridgett Barley, who will be joining Irrigon Elementary School as the SPED 4th-6th grade teacher for the 2023-24 school year! Bridgett's educational journey includes degrees from Western Governors University and Eastern WA University. She has a Special Education Graduate Endorsement, MA in Teaching K-8, and a BA in HR & Business Management. Originally from Palm Springs, CA, she finds joy in baking with sourdough, cooking, growing sunflowers, and watching her sons play lacrosse. Bridgett's culinary favorites include iced mochas and exotic cheeses. With previous teaching experience in various settings, she's excited to be back in a school environment and build connections with students and colleagues. Outside the classroom, Bridgett hopes to learn Italian and take cooking classes in Italy someday. She brings with her a Bachelor's degree from Boise State University and hails from New Plymouth, Idaho. Jill loves outdoor adventures, spending time in nature, playing the piano, and even snorkeling in Hawaii when possible. Her drink of choice is unsweetened iced, and she enjoys teriyaki salmon. With an impressive 30 years of teaching experience, including all K-8 grades, Jill's journey has led her to Heppner, and she's excited to be part of the community. She's thrilled to engage with her students, build connections, and contribute to their growth. Jill's unique interests include side-by-side adventures and learning to play her Imagine Dragons music book on the piano, all while nurturing her sense of wonder. ¡Únase a nosotros para darle la bienvenida a Jill Janicek a la escuela primaria Heppner! Originally from Kelso, Washington, he has a passion for drawing and art, along with a taste for lemongrass curry and Italian sodas. With previous teaching experience, Matthew is excited to establish strong relationships with his students this year. With previous experience as an Education Assistant, Jake is no stranger to teaching. He is eager to create engaging lessons and establish connections with his students. While his plans for the year are still unfolding, Jake is excited to bring fresh perspectives to his teaching methods. ¡Ayúdanos a darle la bienvenida a nuestros nuevos maestros! ¡Estamos emocionados de presentarles a Jake Sorensen, quien se une a Irrigon Junior Senior High School como el nuevo maestro de artes del lenguaje inglés de Junior High para el año escolar 2023-24! The new school year is fast approaching! We have a new registration system and will be sending online registration instructions to all existing families through email the second week in August.
